Greetings, Lay and Clergy Leaders

The Current News from the Provincial Health Officer

As expected, yesterday the Provincial Health Officer extended the orders that do not allow for onsite gatherings either inside or outside until midnight on January 8, 2021. What this means is that the remaining Sundays and weekdays of Advent and all Christmas celebrations through Epiphany cannot be in-person. I know that for some, this will come as a great disappointment. Others may feel relief in that this allows us to make firm plans.

As always, I would ask that you do the best you can to offer meaningful online liturgies and also consider providing some other ways for people to connect to each other, while at the same time doing what you need to do for yourselves and for your own families.

The only new information that the PHO had for us all yesterday was that in-car events were allowable as long as 50 or fewer cars were involved and as long as those in the car were from the same family or “bubble” and during the event did not get out of the car.

Christmas Sermon

As I did with the ODNW investiture, I’ll be offering a Christmas sermon based on the Christmas reading from Luke. This will be offered by video and also in a text format for any who want to use it. You do NOT have to use the sermon! Use it if it’s a help for you and your community. The link to both will be sent to you in another week.

Please know that you are in my prayers at this time. I wish you a blessed Advent and, even and especially now, joy at Christmas,
