Earlier this year in May St. Martin's hosted an information session on addictions and the fentanyl crisis in Vancouver (See September issue of Topic).
From that conversation Parish Council has decided to set up a shrine in the church to honour those who suffer from addictions, their families and friends. The intent is for people to write a prayer or name of someone in your heart who may be affected directly or indirectly from addiction.
From time to time the theme will change to hold in prayer other topics that are in our hearts and minds or what may be happening in the world. The prayers and names written in the book by the shrine may from time to time be included in the Prayers of the People.
This shrine offers one way for us as a church to bring the needs of the world before God. This is intended to be an interactive experience so as you are so moved, please do come by the shrine, offer a prayer silently and perhaps write a petition, name or draw a picture in the book of what is in your heart related to the theme.
