Today St. Martin’s welcomes back Good Stewards Korean Church, who will be using the parish hall for worship services on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. As we re-open the building to tenants, the leadership is committed to both safety for all and responsibility to our tenant groups. The Trustees will be meeting next Monday, August 11th, to consider what needs to be in place before we extend our facilities to community groups and rentals in Phase III.
I have noticed more people, both parishioners and neighbours, coming to enjoy the grounds of our church property. Everyone has been very respectful and is observing physical distancing. It is lovely to stop and share a few words with someone eating lunch on the plaza, finding a restful place to sit and contemplate in the covered walkway, or meditate in the memorial garden. My thanks to the individual parishioners who have brought their own tools and helped keep the gardens beautiful for all during the hot, drier days.
I wonder what we might do as a faith community to connect with the wider neighbourhood as people interact in our outdoor sacred spaces? What about having a place for spiritual resources, such as prayers or reflections? A shelf for a swapping library? Some mental health materials? What can you imagine? I would be very happy to work with parishioners who come up with creative and pastoral ideas as to how to extend God’s love and care.
